Life is like riding a surf board. You can either fall into the ocean or you can ride the wave all the way to the shore. Some waves crash with a roar while others simply fade back into the ocean. So what are you going to do?
It’s time to get back in tune with the universe. Humans are like that one wrong note bringing the universal harmony out of whack. It wasn’t always this way, somewhere along the line we walked out of the jungle and there was a great shift from animal to human. We learned to communicate. We became civilized. We made our villages, cities and countries. We socialized with other humans and became dependant on them to help us meet our needs. At such time we became human leaving many of our animalistic instincts behind.
There are a few stories about this out there. The analogy in the Bible is when Adam and Eve bit into the apple. Science calls it evolution, saying that our brains evolved into what it is today and is based on our needs for survival and self-fulfillment. Modern life has its own example, when a child grows they break out of tune with the universe into the materialistic world of adulthood. They are taught how to act in the world in order to survive and be accepted by others. The problem is that this is totally against the grain.

Meditation originated from Buddhism. But we too have the chance of relaxation and spiritual exploration. Yoga and Meditation techniques have been adopted by new age spirituality. Many methods are taught in retreats. The idea is to be around like minded people, which will aid the renewal of the spirit, body and mind.
The benefits of “meditation” are not short of amazing. Yoga ensures this beneficial health and spiritual care. Meditative benefit’s offer insurance and treatment to those wishing to heal without medication or direct touch being the cure. Buddhism religion is focused around meditation, and their long lives just goes to show how beneficial meditations and yoga’s can be.
When I first became interested in meditation, I had no idea where to start. I felt lost. I needed some form of spiritual guidance, however, I was not prepared to pay out hundreds of dollars in the hopes of finding what I was looking for. I didn’t know the difference between New Age techniques and Buddhist zen yoga. What I was looking for was a means of escape from the stresses of my hectic life into deep relaxation. Luckily, I found a great place to get hold of free meditation audios, which of course suited my purposes.

The benefit of yoga practice goes far beyond the actual time you spend in the poses. One of the most common reasons why people begin practicing yoga is to improve their health and well-being. Yoga means union. It is a union of the mind, body and breath, so all aspects of your life are impacted by your practice.
A major benefit of yoga is physical.
Yoga improves your flexibility. – The stretching that you engage in during every practice helps lengthen and stretch muscles, which helps reduce the risk of injuries.
It helps to improve your balance. – The majority of yoga practices include some type of balancing in the poses. A significant number of people, especially as they began to get older, start to have problems with balance, which can lead to major injuries due to falls. By having a greater sense of balance, you are able to move more easily and safely.

It has been validated that 20 minutes of meditation is the equivalent of 3 hours of sleep. If you are on a plane and onto your next important board meeting, think about how efficient you can be by utilizing 20 minutes of that time to regenerate and renew yourself and be clear and focused for the upcoming event.
First thing we have to do is demystify meditation. Truly, it’s not this thing that these pious monks do high on the hilltops in Tibet, nor is it exclusive to Eastern philosophy. What is meditation? Actually, let’s rather refer to it as relaxation and that brings me to telling you about Herbert Benson, cardiologist, researcher, educator, a mentor. He had a private practice in Massachusetts and in 1962 some TM students, who requested to do a research study on the effects of TM on his patients, approached him. The first time they approached him, in his own words he threw them out the door. Fortunately, they were persistent and so two years later they were back, knocking on his door. This time, for whatever the reason, he was open to their suggestions and the next thing a research study was set up, incorporating his most difficult patients, those that did not respond to medication etc. They hooked them up to all sorts of electrical devices and then analyzed the data. Guess what! Here were these cardiac patients, medically at risk of dying, literally. The study showed that when they were meditating for 20 minutes twice a day, they were able to keep their medical condition under control. The data revealed not only a decrease in blood pressure but also a slowing down of their heart rate, their rate of breathing, as well as a decrease in muscle tension.
So here’s this doctor, renown as a physician and researcher and his data is showing that something like an esoteric and spiritually associated practice of meditation is truly having a profound effect on his patients. Yes, they were able to control a life threatening medical condition by taking 20 minutes twice a day to be quiet. Imagine that! Well, the first thing that he did was to package it in vocabulary that was going to be easier for his colleagues to digest and so he coined the phrase ‘eliciting the relaxation response’ and he continued to analyze the techniques with more scrutiny and eventually came up with the understanding that the basis of the success of the process was in what he referred to as the ‘refocusing process’.
